It's very clear with a guided style that stops in every important matter. As a must, not only is useful to read the book as to implement it, the most difficult part as you need self-motivation (as in everything else!)
Very good.

Winning in FastTime: Harness the Competitive Advantage of Prometheus in Business and Life Review

Winning in FastTime: Harness the Competitive Advantage of Prometheus in Business and Life

If Sun Tzu had been an entrepreneur this book would have been written centuries ago.
Using a concise war-winning paradigm, Warden and Russell have successfully captured the essence of designing a business strategy that will work every time. There are three things that make this book a proverbial "must read."
- It cuts to the chase by explaining what a business strategy needs to provide to everyone in the organization and does this in way that everyone from the mail clerk to the CEO can understand.
- It proves the KISS principle doesn't have to produce a "Business for Dummies" approach.
- You can start reading the book on Monday, finish it on Tuesday, begin to institute change on Wednesday, and by Friday be making a difference.
Frankly, I think it's the best book I've read since "Thriving on Chaos" by, Tom Peters.

Optimizing the Power of Action Learning: Solving Problems and Building Leaders in Real Time Review

Optimizing the Power of Action Learning: Solving Problems and Building Leaders in Real Time
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Michael J. Marquardt has developed a problem-solving tool. His process, which can be adapted by organizations of any size not only provides solutions but also builds leaders and teams.
Marquardt, a professor of HRD and Program Direction of Overseas Programs at The George Washington University, is an expert in action learning. His process has six components.
1. A problem - It must be significant and urgent.
2. A group - The ideal group has between 4 and 8 diverse members.
3. Questions - Initially, team members are restricted to questions. This reflective inquiry period develops a thorough understanding of the problem.
4. Action - The group is authorized to implement their solution.
5. Learning - A commitment to the process is as important as the solution.
6. A coach - Someone is needed to keep the group focused.
A key step is "action." Learning is meaningful only if some type of action is taken. Action generally involves four steps:
1. Understand and Redefine the Problem. This is often the most important step.
2. Articulate a Goal.
3. Develop and Test Strategies.
4. Take Action and Reflect on the Results.
Marquardt includes a 12 step plan to introduce action learning to your organization. Properly implemented, it will accomplish three goals for your organization:
1. It will provide solutions to problems.
2. Develop leaders.
3. Build a problem-solving culture.

The Time Divide: Work, Family, and Gender Inequality (Family and Public Policy) Review

The Time Divide: Work, Family, and Gender Inequality (Family and Public Policy)
Average Reviews:

Jacobs & Gerson present a clear explication of the conflict between work and family encountered by so many parents today. They review popular hypotheses (e.g. Americans work more hours than they used to), examine the relevant research, and provide sound and clearly reasoned conclusions. THE TIME
DIVIDE clarifies precisely why current workplace structures are
incompatible with the realities of family life today - and why this is especially the case for professionals, like the lawyers I coach. I applaud Jacobs and Gerson for making clear
that work/life conflict is a social policy issue of enormous
importance. They make a compelling case for the ways in which
individual choices are constrained by workplace demands and social norms. If every law firm partner read this book, would things finally change enough so that women lawyers would have a fair chance at success and leadership? Would that it were so.

How to Manage in a Flat World: Get Connected to Your Team--Wherever They Are (Financial Times) Review

How to Manage in a Flat World: Get Connected to Your Team--Wherever They Are (Financial Times)
Average Reviews:

I liked this book. The topic has been well researched and the book is carefully laid out. Each chapters starts with an overview, "Key Points" and concludes with a summary of "Learning Points". This approach makes it easy for readers to get a quick gist of the chapter and key points and is also well suited to the big picture person. It would also be useful when it comes to implementing some of the ideas suggested.
There are plenty of case studies, vignettes and quotes from practising managers who vary across organisations, cultures and continents. Although I did find that at times the case studies became a little too numerous and one had to dig or re-trace to grasp the point being made. Nonetheless, they were most valuable to understanding the theme of the chapter.
To get all the subtle messages as well as the key points Bloch and Whitely make, it is necessary to read the book in-depth. This is not a book to be skimmed over. However, if you are in a hurry it would be easy to go to the last chapter and review the 10 key points for managing in a flat world. In fact some readers may wish to start there.
In terms of content, there are many excellent tips, suggestions and proven techniques (from practising managers) that will assist managers who need to manage virtual or widely dispersed teams. Two that stood out for me were:
-Communication requires an emotional commitment to engage, and
-It is easier to overcome the limitations of virtual contact if there is a rapport between individuals
Of course, the authors go on to explain how to implement these ideas.
One quote from Dadvid Grigson, CEO, Reuters is also memorable:
-"Managing your people is often less urgent, but is always more important"
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has to manage virtual, multicultural or multinational teams.

Thanks to the internet and a globalising economy, businesses today are often stretched across different locations and different time zones, and increasingly communicate online rather than face-to-face. For a manager, it is very hard to manage and motivate a team that spans continents. Managing in a Flat World gives today's manager much-needed advice on how to communicate, manage and motivate in the flattened company and how to operate effectively in the flat world.Within this book, authors Susan Bloch and Philip Whitely expose insights from in-depth interviews and research with managers and leaders in global businesses to show the successes, struggles and triumphs amid a constant battle for balance within a changing world, based on technology. You can learn from their experience how best to collaborate as teams and groups within the flat economy, how to equip yourself as a team leader or team member with fresh ideas on ways of working with your colleagues so as to make the most of the advantages that the networked world can offer.

CyberYenta's Old-Fashioned Wisdom For Newfangled Times Review

CyberYenta's Old-Fashioned Wisdom For Newfangled Times
Average Reviews:

Written in a unique voice that combines gentle oberservational humor with a keenly sharp wit and knowing eye, Ms. Levine has created a wonderful character and hilarious book. Tackling today's technology with warmth and wisdom, "Cyber Yenta" shares her funny and touching views and opinions on just about everything--and it all rings so very true. Torn between nodding my head in agreement and laughing hysterically, I easily imagined having "CyberYenta" in the kitchen for tea and wished for more of her common-sense guidance and pointers.
I found this book extremely funny, touching and authentic. Not only did it help demystify confusing technological advances but served as a very funny and warm antidote to modern complexities.
