Mastering Derivatives Markets (The Financial Times Market Editions) Review

Mastering Derivatives Markets (The Financial Times Market Editions)

You may seldom locate a book telling you one of the most practical aspect in recent regime of financial accountng - booking the derivatives. Nevertheless, it spent a few paragraphs together with some examples showing you the booking of three major types of derivatives in the financial market. Other topics also illustrate comprehensively the functioning of the derivatives as well as accompanied with various examples. Had it not been for the limited pages in explaining the booking methodology, it would have been the best derivatives related book that I have met before.

The Project Management Time Cycle: Time Cycle Module: From Concept To Feasibility. Review

The Project Management Time Cycle: Time Cycle Module: From Concept To Feasibility.

This is an unique guide on Project Management giving a step by step build up methodology. of a Project from a one line requirement of a CEO. The first part of the Book is developing the project documentation from the concept. It is demonstrated in simple terms how to build up the initial project constraints and how to present them to the stakeholders. The next part of the book shows how to examine the feasibility of the project once the project basics are finalised. The book demonstrates each step in detail including why it is necessary and could be an useful reference guide or handbook for project managers like us to develop their core project documentation.
One important part of the book is that it demystifies the jargon involved in project management and lays them bare not only with detailed explanation but examples.
Some aspects of the book are only relevant to major projects. The author attempts to cover a very wide range from Retail, IT Services to Infrastructure Projects as well as incorporate futuristic techniques, some of which may not be part of one's daily project plan. . As a middle manager I would not be able to use some of the unique methods of treatment of risk, time and resources suggested by the book as I am not the key decision maker and our company would take a long time to adopt such futuristic techniques .

For me the utility of the book lies in the methodology. The detailed analysis of each step we take in a project with the reasons behind each of them is the key benefit to be derived from this book. I would use it as a reference manual while monitoring as well as planning future projects.

The New Data Imperative: Managing Real-Time Risk in Capital Markets Review

The New Data Imperative: Managing Real-Time Risk in Capital Markets

THE NEW DATA IMPERATIVE does two eye-opening things. First, it explains, simply and clearly, how the information technology structures inside the financial system failed to keep up with the dizzying pace of derivative trading that crashed to a halt in the credit freeze. There's been plenty of talk about the "quants," the numbers gurus who devised the derivatives and the trading schemes, and the traders and their bosses. But the role of IT - the multiple, aging systems within a single financial institution that couldn't talk to each other and produce a unified data stream - has been largely ignored. This book casts much needed light on that problem, and you don't have to be a "quant" to understand it.
Second, the book explains how IT systems must be re-engineered to clean up the mess and get the economy back on track. The good news is that much of the necessary architecture and software are already available.
Anyone who wants a straightforward, authoritative guide to IT in the financial markets will find it here.

Day Trade Part-Time Review

Day Trade Part-Time

When John and I started trading, we found such a confusing mess of information that we had a very difficult time getting started. And it was an expensive time because we had no clear direction or path to take. We wrote this book to serve as a mentor to people who want to give day trading a try, but don't want to "quit their day job" or lose their life's savings to do it.
Day trading is not, and should never be, gambling. In times of extreme market volatility, it can be your most conservative investment style. Understanding and using the principles of day trading can be a safe alternative to a "buy and hold" strategy when the markets are in a zig-zag pattern up and down. With the technology stocks going up 10 points one day and down 10 the next, a careful day trader can capture a piece of that variability each day, whereas a "buy and holder" would be net flat and probably developing a considerable ulcer. Everyone interested in stocks should know enough about day trading to understand good intraday entry points, even if they are primarily investors.
This book is meant to act as your guide - helping you take each step in the learning process toward becoming a successful part-time day trader. We show you how to find a broker, what software you need, what books to read, what web sites to look at, what training course you need, and give you guidance on how to put it all together.
Most important, we tell you everything that can go wrong! And we show you how to practise without risking any of your hard earned money. This is not a get-rich quick scheme. It is an approach that will enable you to capture the daily variations in the market.
John and I were not hedge fund managers. We were not stock brokers. We were just regular people like most of you that wanted to find a way to make a little extra money. We know what regular people "don't" know - we don't assume you have Wall Street Knowledge. We talk to you like we wish someone had talked to us. And we give you examples of the things we went through so you can learn from our experiences and not have to repeat our mistakes.
We wish you much success. Jeanette
