This is a very readable book. The chapters are short and I find they make me want to act on the great suggestions made. Each chapter provides actions you can implement to get the results you desire. There is no question what to do to be successful.... the only question is how fast you're willing to do it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed and valued this book.
It was so useful to me, I wanted to be able to take it everywhere, so I bought it on my Kindle, too!!

Time-Saving Tips for Teachers Review

Time-Saving Tips for Teachers

You have other things to do, and should not have to re-create the wheel. There was much of my 25 years of teaching that was used in this way, and a book like this early on in my career would have helped me save literally hundreds of hours per year.
You should make sure that your library has this work, and it is made available to teachers. One hour with this book will literally pay you back with 100 hours of saved time.
This is an excellent resource, but as a secondary school teacher some of the material will NEVER apply to me. However, there were other items of interest that I should attend to, but do not. The book literally had shortcuts and efficiencies listed for things that I do not do, but should do. In this sense, this book was a very welcomed, and surprising resource.
Some of the reproducible masters were not completely consistent with my school, but they gave me ideas and a beginning. It did not take me long to whip up my own work, and I must confess that this book gave me the idea. Again, more efficiencies, and a savings of more time.
I would think that if you are an elementary school teacher, this work should apply to your everyday with even more applicability than mine. I need to discuss this with my sister, as she teaches elementary.
The mathematics of efficiency was something which I agreed with, and it hammered home the idea that there is a job, and it is certainly possible to get this done quickly. For perfectionists, the first chapter is for you, and I hope that the words will release you from your self-imposed prisons, and give you thousands of hours of your life back to you.
So many teachers are intensely motivated, and spend considerable time at their respective tasks. This book will quite literally give you more and more of your life back to you, and your family. It has taken me many years to discover this fact, and I do not want you to take a decade or two, arriving at this rather simple conclusion. This book will take you from that realization to the fullness of a life, coupled with the teaching.
Maybe you don't need to read every chapter, nor study it intently, but I assure you that with only one hour of inspection, you will save a ton ot time.

Achieving Objectives Made Easy Practical goal setting tools & proven time management techniques Review

Achieving Objectives Made Easy Practical goal setting tools and proven time management techniques
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As I read this book, many of the techniques, strategies and ideas were very similar (if not the same) to techniques from other goal setting books, such as Hard Goals : The Secret to Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be by Mark Murphy and Goals!: How to Get Everything You Want -- Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible by Brian Tracy, such as visualizing, "finding your why" (different authors have different phrases for these), writing down your goals, etc.... I even found some techniques that were similar to The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Perhaps it was just coincidence.
Those aren't bad ideas, though from a personal standpoint, there were various instances in my life where I've actually tried most, if not all of these techniques and although it gave me something nice to fantasize about, in the end, usually, nothing ever came of it. On the other hand, there were instances where I didn't write anything down, but just went ahead and did it and achieved my goals faster than if I just wrote everything down on paper (I bet the trees were happier, too ;-)). Go figure. By the way... these weren't "small goals" either. This is why I was glad when the author mentioned that your goals must be reasonable. Most self help experts really beat that statement of "You can do whatever it is your heart desires." or "you can achieve anything you want" to death, which is why I was also glad when the author mentions how you should focus on your strengths. This is also something I mention in my practicalgoalachieving blog.
I also like how he mentions finding accountability partners and surrounding yourself with positive people (by the way... if you're at a loss as to where to find such people, you can go to the meetup website). I also want to mention that finding qualified mentors help also.
The section on time management was nice and he even gives a small section on how to deal with people. The "Yes but"/"Yes and" example was good and was also covered in How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Time management is something that is applicable to most life situations, not just business/work, so it would be nice for the author to give examples that are not work-related, since this book is also about goal setting and some people's goals are not work/ business related. For instance. If my goal is to lose, say, fifteen pounds, how can I apply time managment to that? Can I apply it to that situation?
Overall, this was a really educational and informative book. Personally, I don't know if I would use ALL the techniques he advocates. That doesn't someone else wouldn't and it certainly doesn't mean others won't find these techniques useful. To each their own. There were good ideas and some that are pretty commonplace in the personal development and goal setting area.

Can I give this book 10 Stars?

The 26-Hour Day: How to Gain at Least 2 Hours a Day with Time Control Review

The 26-Hour Day: How to Gain at Least 2 Hours a Day with Time Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Twenty Six Hour Day Is Not Fiction! A Book Review
by Mike Banks Valentine
Vince Panella might have been accused of writing a work of
fiction when titling his book "The 26 Hour Day, How to Gain
at Least 2 Hours a Day with Time Control". When he begins
his "Introduction to Time Control" chapter by stating on the
first page that he's . . . "come to the conclusion that --
time management does not work!" he immediately had me hooked.
I was charmed by the intensely human approach he takes from
the beginning. I've got to agree with him because my own
experience with time management is that it has a mechanistic,
almost robotic feel to it as presented by efficiency experts,
management consultants and minutia-charting time accountants.
Here is an approach that allows for "wasting time" and, even
more surprisingly, advocates getting sufficient sleep!
Although he suggests wasting incrementally less time than you
normally might he is clearly aware that as human beings, we
are driven less by deadlines than by emotional needs. At least
once in every chapter, reminding the reader that we are not
perfect and that it's OK that we're not precise as robots.
Panella blends the best of self improvement with his unique
approach to what he calls "Time Control", quoting personal
growth gurus Tony Robbins and Deepak Chopra beside references
to American Statistician, W. Edwards Deming, the man who was
". . . given credit for engineering Japan's modern industrial
success over the last 50 years." Deming guided Japanese
business through a formula of continual success improvement.
Constant incremental refining of success formulas is certainly
not limited to Deming. One of my strongest early inspirations
was reading "The Autobiography of Ben Franklin", in which the
continual improvement of Franklin's character throughout his
life is chronicled. Self improvement predated Franklin as well,
but Panella has combined the best of personal growth with time
control to offer what he has called "Success Centered Time
Management."
Although Panella does cover critical topics typical to time
management such as standard issue and admittedly important -
* Winning the War Against Procrastination
* The Power and Purpose of Goals
* Reducing Distractions
Those key points are presented in ways that kept my interest,
a surprising accomplishment in itself. But Panella has some
more compelling thoughts on some new approaches he has refined
over his nearly 20 years of presenting this material. Notable
are several concepts that resonate strongly with humanity.
* Gain 2 More Hours a Day Through the Power of Sleep

As one with sleep apnea disorder, I require more sleep than
most, but Panella boldly proclaims that, "Lack of adequate
sleep is the reason for 90 percent of the problems many of
us experience in gaining more control of our time."
He makes a strong case for a society that values sleep far
more than does ours. He goes so far as to cite a Gallup poll
that showed "Twenty-Five percent of adults believe they
cannot be successful AND get enough sleep!" He gives ample
reasons, from reduced productivity and performance right on
through loss of life caused by drowsiness and inattention.
* Bit by Bit, The Amazing Power of Five Minutes
This section emphasizes devoting a simple five minutes to
gradual progress toward seemingly huge goals on a daily
basis. Slow and steady wins the race might describe this
approach. He refers to this technique throughout the book
in varied ways to suggest that progress doesn't have to be
measured in tireless devoted hours of struggle, but can be
achieved much more easily "bit by bit."
* Moments, The Secret of Life
As a teenager, I wondered what my life might look like as
a two hour movie and imagined what little slices of time
might make it to the final cut (as I experienced one of my
first identity crises upon finishing high school). Panella
suggests that all of our lives are much like that and are
defined by individual moments of positive accomplishment
and that all lives are made up of a collection of small
moments we strongly identify with and remember powerfully.
The striking concept he delivers in the book is that we
not only have that inventory of past moments, but that we
should consider steadily depositing in a bank account of
moments from each day, and further, that we consider
investing to accumulate a wealth of moments. "Every day,
consciously look to create significant and simple moments"
to add to your "moments account".
* Maximizing Any Experience
"Before any event or experience . . . simply ask yourself
how prepared you are . . . for the event. You'll go through
details in your head and take a subjective measurement . . .
Then you'll ask yourself what you can do to make the event
a little better ahead of time. You'll repeat asking this
question . . . listing your answers . . . When complete,
you'll have a laundry list of actions to maximize the
event . . . You get to play armchair quarterback ahead of
time. You pull yourself back and look at the big picture
with a chance to make positive changes. Something we fail
to do more times than not."
"Maximizing almost seems too easy." Indeed it does, but
what a powerful tool if we only developed the habit.
The 26 Hour Day, I'm convinced, is a real possibility
in terms of maximising events, investing in our moments
with sincere gratitude and bit by bit, in multiple five
minute increments, we can gain additional value from our
alloted time.
Vince Panella has unwittingly given me the blueprint for
my New Years Resolutions for 2002. I'm committed to
investing significant time to his program of continual
success improvement over the coming year.

Take Back Your Time: How to Regain Control of Work, Information, and Technology

This is a terrific synthesis of the best time-management literature and Ms. Jasper's substantial practical experience working one-on-one with clients. What sets the book apart from others in the field is its emphasis on usefulness. Jasper outlines what works, and what does not work, and explains why. After reading her book, I felt like I was able to make my own, informed decisions about managing my time, papers, and belongings. Also, because Jasper isn't selling a line of time-management products her recommendations and insights are not colored by any hidden agenda. The book is well researched, well organized, and well written, and includes a substantial bibliography and a useable index. If you are looking for the one time-management book to buy, for home or office, this is the one.

This one was a mixed bag. On the one hand, a lot of tips brought together in one place; on the other, deeper concepts are not necessarily given the depth or context they're due if one is to really internalize them and change habits.
I wouldn't recommend it to someone who hasn't read Getting Things Done and some of the other most popular time management books - to whom these authors owe a debt of gratitude - but if you know enough to see who they're paraphrasing it's a useful aggregation of ideas. One particularly bad thing is that they did not include a bibliography pointing to those other sources. Some were cited in the text, but haphazardly (e.g. no mention of David Allen's Getting Things Done in tip 19 "Capture Your Open Items" which is practically an abstract of a chapter of his book).

The 25 Best Time Management Tools & Techniques: How to Get More Done Without Driving Yourself Crazy Review

The 25 Best Time Management Tools and Techniques: How to Get More Done Without Driving Yourself Crazy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
No matter how well you manage time, this book will make you better at managing time and return your investment many times over.
You get the benefit of the top twenty books on time management in one easy to read book. The authors took an interesting approach to writing this book. They started by reading the Amazon.com customer reviews for over 40 time management books. Then they bought and read the top 20 of these books. The key points from these books were then summarized as 25 clearly described tools and techniques and grouped into five areas of focus:
* Determine what is really important to you.
* Manage your plans to get results.
* Organize your living and work spaces.
* Manage your actions.
* Implement continuous improvement.
Each of these five areas has a brief description of what is to be covered. Within each area the relevant tools and techniques are concisely described so that you can put what you have learned into action immediately.
The simplicity of this book is a distinct benefit - the book is easy to read and the techniques are succinctly presented - preventing the reader from getting lost in the details and hence never addressing their time management issues. Anyone looking to get a handle on time management issues has immediate access to proven concepts and tools for changing what they are doing now.
For those wishing more information on a particular tool or technique, the authors reference specific books or provide directions where this additional information can be found. Generally this works well. However, I was disappointed on one occasion. In the section on creating a vision, I would have liked to see examples of vision statements rather than being referred to another book. For me this was an unnecessary interruption of my thought processes.
Two useful appendices are available with additional information: The Best Time Management Books - Annotated and Other Recommended Books. A third appendix, How to Buy Books for (Much) Less, could have been left out as the information was not related to the topic of the book and did not add much value.

Successful Time Management For Dummies Review

Successful Time Management For Dummies

First things first, as a real estate broker and team leader who owns almost all of Dirk Zeller's books, I will admit to being a bit biased in his favor. This prolific author simply writes cleanly and clearly, in a language that we can all easily understand. His latest book is one of his best and is a MUST READ for anyone who has ever felt the pain of "too little time" in their business or personal life. I have found this book to be life changing and have been surprised at how easy many of the concepts are to implement in my daily routine. As Dirk notes early on, Dummy books do not have to be read front to back; instead, you can do what I did and start with areas that hold the most interest for you. In my case, this meant going right to Chapter 5, "Setting Up and Maintaining a Productive Workspace." Using the simple steps in this chapter I got my massive desk cleaned up, moved tons of "to do" items into Outlook tasks, refined my workflow with my wife (the vice president of the company :o) and otherwise got my space turned into a much more productive and sharp looking workplace. Next stop for me was Chapter 10, "Overcoming Procrastination, a Notorious Time Thief." More organizational goodness ensued... I bought this book for all the obvious reasons but mostly because I knew that many of the holes in my business and personal life are centered on time or the lack thereof. If (like me) you have become honest enough to admit you could improve your time management, this book is FOR YOU. I think it would be especially good for business readers but others can still benefit from its practical advice and suggestions. Lastly, if you are in any way involved in real estate, you owe it to yourself to check out Dirk Zeller's many other fine books; his work is easily on par with Gary Keller, Stephen Covey and Michael Gerber (to name a few). This book is amazing, it really is, check it out...
