As I read this book, many of the techniques, strategies and ideas were very similar (if not the same) to techniques from other goal setting books, such as Hard Goals : The Secret to Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be by Mark Murphy and Goals!: How to Get Everything You Want -- Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible by Brian Tracy, such as visualizing, "finding your why" (different authors have different phrases for these), writing down your goals, etc.... I even found some techniques that were similar to The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Perhaps it was just coincidence.
Those aren't bad ideas, though from a personal standpoint, there were various instances in my life where I've actually tried most, if not all of these techniques and although it gave me something nice to fantasize about, in the end, usually, nothing ever came of it. On the other hand, there were instances where I didn't write anything down, but just went ahead and did it and achieved my goals faster than if I just wrote everything down on paper (I bet the trees were happier, too ;-)). Go figure. By the way... these weren't "small goals" either. This is why I was glad when the author mentioned that your goals must be reasonable. Most self help experts really beat that statement of "You can do whatever it is your heart desires." or "you can achieve anything you want" to death, which is why I was also glad when the author mentions how you should focus on your strengths. This is also something I mention in my practicalgoalachieving blog.
I also like how he mentions finding accountability partners and surrounding yourself with positive people (by the way... if you're at a loss as to where to find such people, you can go to the meetup website). I also want to mention that finding qualified mentors help also.
The section on time management was nice and he even gives a small section on how to deal with people. The "Yes but"/"Yes and" example was good and was also covered in How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Time management is something that is applicable to most life situations, not just business/work, so it would be nice for the author to give examples that are not work-related, since this book is also about goal setting and some people's goals are not work/ business related. For instance. If my goal is to lose, say, fifteen pounds, how can I apply time managment to that? Can I apply it to that situation?
Overall, this was a really educational and informative book. Personally, I don't know if I would use ALL the techniques he advocates. That doesn't someone else wouldn't and it certainly doesn't mean others won't find these techniques useful. To each their own. There were good ideas and some that are pretty commonplace in the personal development and goal setting area.
