Perfect Balance: Create Time and Space for All Parts of Your Life Review

Perfect Balance: Create Time and Space for All Parts of Your Life

This book has been incredibly helpful to me. It walks you through exercises to determine your values, needs, responsibilities, priorities, and goals. Also includes a section on life purpose. It also has valuable tips for getting perspectives, calming, and prioritizing, and doesn't get long-winded or preachy. After completing the exercises and looking at the chart I'd made, I was able to see in a quick glance where I was on top of the things that are important, where I needed to make more of an effort, and where less. If you feel like your life is out of control, this book will help you get it back under your control.

Review written by
Kerry Dexter
Dirty Linen Magazine
Dec.2004/January 2005 Issue
Jeri Goldstein fairly well created the gold standard for music business books that are both practical and wise when the first edition was released in 1998, offering succinct ideas on setting goals, planning for a long-range future as a musician, when to quit your day job, and when to rethink your music career. Along with those came big-picture straight forward advice on negotiating with venues, planning tour routing, how to set up an office, what to include in a letter of intent, and what to look for in a contract, among other things. The latest edition includes all that, organized into bite-sized chapters packed with information and seasoned with sidebar quotes and tips from music industry professionals...There are updates to the resources sections included with each chapter, added information about immigration issues for artists and about creating and using electronic press kits, and materials on web design. New edition or old, it's a book that belongs on the shelf of anyone who wants to know more about the many-faceted business of performing arts, touring and presenting, and integrating that part of a musician's life into a successful career.

Connie Podesta has written a great line of books in her career, and this is no exception! I've gotten a lot out of reading most of her books and am really impressed with this one. It's got great How-to info on gaining the trust and respect of women so you can finally close the deal with them.
Now, I've never needed any of these sales guides, but everything in there seems great and makes sense. I'm such a fan of her work that I felt I should read this one too. And I'd say it's actually helped with my overall communication skills. I loved this book. Other great works by her: Life Would Be Easy If It Weren't for Other People (Live) & How to Be the Person Successful Companies Fight to keep
Read her stuff, you won't regret it.

#4 : She doesn't trust the salesperson
#5 : She doesn't think the salesperson is the right person for the job

The Essential Guide for First-Time Homeowners: Maximize Your Investment & Enjoy Your New Home (USA Today/Nolo Series) Review

The Essential Guide for First-Time Homeowners: Maximize Your Investment and Enjoy Your New Home (USA Today/Nolo Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is not so much an "Essential Guide" as it is a collection of mostly-useful tips, diluted with a lot of cute fluff. For example, there is a chapter with lots of bullet point lists for handling disputes with neighbors, along with a cookie recipe so you can "Woo the Neighbors With These Chocolate-Filled Cookies".
The book tries to cover too many subjects (home maintenance, real estate finance, neighbor law, etc.) and ends up with insufficient detail. The chapter on home maintenance contains a brief schedule of things to check in each month, but what is a first-time homeowner going to get out of the recommendation to "Test the pressure and temperature valve on your water heater by opening it and allowing some water to flow out"? As with most of the tips, a bit more detail telling the reader how to do this would make the advice useful instead of just nagging.
Most of the tips are helpful if incomplete, and most first-time homeowners would benefit from skimming this book. But the book should not be considered a substitute for a real reference on any of the subjects it covers.

I got this book after I read about it in a Vanity Fair profile of Warren Buffet. It details how many people made a thousand dollars in the 1920s and 30's (about 40-50ks in today's purchasing power). Back then, you could do things like buy a potato chip making machine, bag them in your basement, and sell them to restaurants.
Today, of course, you are expected to file for an LLC (perhaps with a DBA), apply for food handling permits, get WC insurance, get tax ID numbers for federal and state taxes, get a liability bond, withold taxes for any employees, etcetera, all before you can sell your first potato chip. Madness! This is why we were a powerhouse then, and why we are doomed now.

Selling in Tough Times: Secrets to Selling When No One Is Buying Review

Selling in Tough Times: Secrets to Selling When No One Is Buying
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Certainly timely since we've all been facing tough times for the past couple of years, Tom Hopkins' newest book, Selling in Tough Times: Secrets to Selling When No One is Buying (Business Plus: 2010), seeks to help sellers at all levels get back to the top.
If you're a Hopkins enthusiast looking for something new, you'll be disappointed as there is nothing new in the book--but in many ways that's the point of the book. Hopkins argues that a tough selling environment demands sellers return to the basics of selling. Restating and reinforcing those basics--from prospecting to communication to closing--is the heart and soul of Selling in Tough Times.
Easy to read, the book addresses virtually every aspect of selling, each aspect being addressed in a short one to three page section.
Hopkins spends the first quarter of the book discussing the mental aspects of adjusting to a down market and why selling in a weak market demands you return to the fundamentals of selling. Although many will find the book drags a bit in these early chapters, the book's format lends itself to skipping those sections that aren't of interest and focusing on those that you believe are pertinent to your needs.
The second two thirds of the book deals with the various parts of the sale--finding prospects, qualifying them, selling them, servicing them, keeping them. Again, since the book is a series of short treatments of the various points of the sale, you can zero in on those sections of interest to you and ignore the remainder.
If you already have one of Hopkins' other books such as How to Master the Art of Selling or Selling for Dummies, there's no need to purchase this one--unless you simply want a concise summation of Hopkins' teachings. On the other hand, if you're in a slump or are finding your current market difficult to crack, refocusing on the basics of selling is the place to start and Hopkins lays them out in a straightforward, easy to implement format.

I have been looking for this book ever since I purchased Rita Davenport's personal home study course (audio) several years ago. I knew the book would be great...and I wasn't disappointed. It is loaded with practical and powerful tools for recognizing goals, time management and achieving success--especially for women. Too bad the publisher did not include a contact address...this lady may never know what a profound influence she has had on my life
